Dr. Trembley on the Conspiracy Theory Around Adults Getting More Cavities

Dr. Trembley, Bobby Bones' dentist in Nashville, called into the Bobby Bones Show to answer all of our dental questions.

There's a whole cavity conspiracy on TikTok where people think there are dentists who say you have multiple cavities just to make some extra money. Dr. Trembley says he doesn't believe there are a lot of dentists who are over diagnosing to make money. However, he does know that when a person goes to different dentists they are naturally going to get different treatment plans since every Dentist has their own way of doing things. One dentist may have a "wait and see" mentality while some dentists may want to treat cavities right away. He doesn't think there is a conspiracy around it, but he does know that new technology with AI will fix this because AI will tell them when and how they should fix a cavity.

So then Bones asked why people are often getting cavities later in life when they've never had them, Dr. Trembley said it has to do with the saliva in your mouth. The saliva in your mouth decreases in volume with age, and salvia is what helps buffer acid and keeps a person from getting cavities. There are products a person can use to produce more saliva or change in the PH balance in the mouth to help with this change. Dr. Trembley also encouraged people to use electronic toothbrushes as they tend to not over brush the teeth like people do when they're using a regular one. He also noted that people should replace their toothbrushes or toothbrush heads as soon as it starts fraying and losing the structure.

When discussing Bones personal teeth care, he shared that Dr. Trembley has put botox in his forehead and masseters because he clenches his jaw so hard when he sleeps that he's broken six of his teeth doing so. Injecting the botox like Dr. Trembley did helps the clenching stop at least for a period of time.
