Diffie was an inspirations for many of today's hottest stars. In 2013, two of today's biggest stars , Jason Aldean and Thomas Rhett, paid tribute to him in a hit song titled "1994"

The song was written by Thomas Rhett, who was ironically on four years old in 1994 but, his Dad, singer/songwriter Rhett Akins was hugely popular on the Country music circuit at the time with hits like "That Ain't My Truck". One of youg Thomas' favorite singers at the time was Joe Diffie.

While in a writing session in 2012 with Luke Laird and Barry Dean, they decided to write a song about a guy and a girl in a favorite romantic spot, listening to Thomas' musical hero Joe Diffie on a boom box. "1994' was born and was filled with lyrics and song titles from Joe Diffie music.

Jason Aldean heard the demo of the song and immediately knew he wanted to cut it for his NIGHT TRAIN album.

"I was a junior in high school in '94," Aldean added, "and Joe Diffie was huge. I remember I went to the Cherry Blossom Street Party in Macon (GA), with Kenny Chesney on one stage and Joe Diffie on the other stage, and there was 5,000 people watching Joe Diffie and about 500 watching Kenny Chesney." Aldean told Billboard magazine.

The music video features many of Jason's fellow Georgians - co-writer Thomas Rhett, Lady Antebellum, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line, Little Big Town, and Floridian Jake Owen.
