Luke Combs announced the release date of a heartfelt fatherhood ballad that he’s been teasing on his social media pages for months.

“The Man He Sees in Me” will make its long-awaited debut on Thursday (June 6) at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT, Combs confirmed on Monday afternoon (June 3). Combs posted an acoustic rendition of the song in January. He was on “dad duty” while his wife, Nicole Combs, was on the treadmill when he debuted the “dad song” that he wrote with songwriter Josh Phillips. Combs shared the lyrics in the comments: “He’s Spider-Man in Walmart boots/ And a camouflage hat/ With a baby blue Zebco/ That gets hung up every cast/ He thinks he’s learning fishing/ From the man that taught Bill Dance/ And I think as I untangle it and put it in his hands/ I hope he never finds out that I didn’t hang the moon/ And I’ve never scared a monster out the closet in his room/ Someday between him leaving home and driving on my knee/ Maybe I’ll finally be, the man he sees in me/ He waves his blanket like a checkered flag/ Pulling off of the interstate/ With a happy meal cup held high/ Like I won the big race/ When we get inside, his mind is blown/ When I untie his shoes/ And he smiles and says, ‘Daddy, there ain’t nothing you can’t do’

“I hope he never finds out that I didn’t hang the moon/ And I never scared a monster out the closet in his room/ Someday between him leaving home and driving on my knee/ Maybe I’ll finally be/ The man he sees in me/ I know he’s gonna find out that I didn’t hang the moon/ There never was a monster in the closet of his room/ Someday when he’s driving home with his son on his knee/ I hope he’s trying to be the man he sees in me/ The man he sees in me”

Combs and his wife welcomed their first child, son Tex Lawrence Combs, on Father’s Day in June 2022. Less than one year later, they announced Nicole was pregnant with Baby No. 2. Their second child, another baby boy, Beau Lee Combs, arrived in August 2023. Nicole recently said, when asked whether she and her husband had plans for Baby No. 3, that “it would be a bit hard in the 2 bedroom house but maybe when we move into the bigger house. Who knows!”

Last week, Combs seemingly hinted that a full album full of songs about fatherhood was in the works. He’s shared sneak peeks of a few other unreleased songs in recent months, including “Huntin’ By Yourself,” “Plant a Seed,” and “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Most recently, the North Carolina-born singer-songwriter released “Ain’t No Love In Oklahoma,” the first single from the star-studded Twisters album. The movie is “an update to the 1996 film 'Twister', which centered on a pair of storm chasers who risk their lives in an attempt to test an experimental weather alert system,” reads its description on IMDb. The thriller stars Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Maura Tierney. The movie and album will release on July 19.
